In order to reach this ambitious and important goal, we all need to ACT in our homes and places of work to build a more sustainable future.
Buildings generate more than 50% of the city’s total greenhouse gas emissions, largely through their energy use. Driving radical energy efficiency towards net zero carbon buildings is a key focus area for the City, and achieving it is critical to reaching our energy and climate goals.
A net zero carbon building is one that produces as much energy as it consumes. This is achieved through reducing energy demand through good passive design; installing high efficiency lighting and power systems, including appliances; and by supplying the building’s energy needs from renewable sources.
